What is Muay Thai Kickboxing

Muay Thai Kickboxing classes at Hammer’s Gym utilise all eight weapons of the body including; hands, feet, knees and elbows. There is a strong focus on developing the correct skills, movements and techniques associated with Muay Thai, while improving your physical fitness, stamina, discipline, confidence and overall well-being.

Novice classes run five days a week, in three time slots, to ensure you are able to train regularly and develop your skill base. Muay Thai can benefit just about anyone, at any fitness level as intensity builds with grading level, and all exercises can be modified. It is a great way to learn new skills, get fit and make new friends.


Muay Thai kickboxing uses every muscle in your body in an interval-style training regime that most people find their body will respond to quickly. Muay Thai encourages a strong mind that is courageous, focussed confident and disciplined. The one hour training sessions develop physical and mental endurance.

Thai Boxing burns fat quickly with current Hammer’s members noticing impressive results including weight loss, increased core strength and cardiovascular improvements. As well as the obvious physical benefits, Muay Thai helps in boosting the immune system of the body, providing strength and endurance to muscles.

Those who have low self-esteem or are lacking in self-confidence have also benefited from martial arts at Hammer’s as it instilled confidence in them and they learnt how to respect themselves more. Hammer’s Gym encourages trainers to be courageous and fearless but at the same time honest and compassionate.


Inter Club Tournaments:
All Muay Thai students of blue level and above have the opportunity to compete in regular Interclub Challenges. Students are matched with opponents of similar weight, height and experience and participate in light contact sparring rounds of approximately one minute. These challenges are a good way to test your skills in a controlled environment and are always a lot of fun.

Fully Structured Grading System:
Hammer’s Gym teaches a fully structured Muay Thai Kickboxing curriculum, which incorporates a progressive grading system. The curriculum has been taught for the past 20 years and was developed by Kru Mark Castagnini.

After three months of consistent training, students have the opportunity to grade to the first of the Intermediate levels (blue and red singlets). Subsequent gradings occur at the student’s own pace, but not with less than three months of consistent training. Students progress from Intermediate into the Advanced levels (yellow/green/brown/black singlets).

Grading is not mandatory, but provides a training goal to focus upon, a sense of achievement on completion, and a formal opportunity to receive feedback on technique and gauge personal development.

Amateur/Professional opportunities:

If you have previously trained or fought professionally Hammer’s Gym offers many avenues for you to compete to a higher level. Hammer’s Gym hosts Warriors Way Events which is a great way to begin your career. Hammer’s Gym has a 95% win ratio which proves that our training is effective.
